You can now buy the HP Dragonfly Chromebook for under $1000

I’m in the middle of my review process for the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook, and it’s no spoiler to say that this is easily one of the best Chromebooks I’ve ever used. With a bright, 3:2 QHD screen, haptic trackpad, fingerprint scanner, quad speakers, fantastic webcam, backlit keyboard, wireless recharging USI pen, fast internals and convertible form factor, the Dragonfly absolutely packs in the specs. There’s almost nothing else to pine for when looking at this Chromebook, but all that mojo comes at a cost. And it’s a big one.

The starting price of the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook is $1149, and that gets you a 12th-gen Core i3, 8GB or RAM and 128GB of NVMe storage. Trust me: this Chromebook will absolutely fly. Will it be as ludicrously fast as the Core i5 and Core i7 models? No, but not only will general users not notice; power users likely won’t, either.

The even better part of this is the fact that all the other goodies come along for the ride. Even though this is the entry level model, you still get all the benefits that come with the Dragonfly Chromebook. Same bright QHD screen, same excellent keyboard, same haptic trackpad. That’s a lot of great hardware on offer in an entry level model, but all those extras still come with a loft price tag.

But that elevated cost is at least a bit reduced right now over on HP’s website, and that means you can get your hands on an HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook right now for $979.00. While that is still a lot of money for a Chromebook, it feels a bit more reasonable for a device of this caliber when compared with the original $1149 asking price.

Right now, HP shows this as in stock and ready to ship by July 22nd, but with only 4 left. How true either of those things are is up for debate, but this is the first general availability of this top-notch Chromebook we’ve seen, and it is nice to have a sale price already available. It gives me hope that we may eventually see this Chromebook in standard retail channels for closer to $900 and with everything you get in this exceptional device, the price makes sense. If you are ready to pull the trigger on one right now, however, I’d do so sooner than later. If those inventory numbers are correct, this current discount won’t last too long.
