The trial for Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against ex-wife, Amber Heard, will resume today after the third day of testimony in Virginia.
On Thursday (April 14), witness Gina Deuters, a friend of Depp’s, deleted her testimony from the record and was fired after admitting to watching clips from the trial online. Instead, the video evidence of Dr. David Kipper, who treated the actor for addiction, was played.
Previously, the recorded depositions were shown by Heard’s former aide, Kate James, and the couple’s marriage counselor, Dr. Laurel Anderson, who detailed their “mutual abuse”.
Depp states that a 2018 article on domestic violence against women, written by Heard, implied that he was a molester during their relationship. Though he didn’t name him, lawyers say his allegations of him made it difficult for the actor to land film roles.
He is seeking $ 50 million (£ 38.2 million) in damages during the trial in the Fairfax County District Court. Heard filed a counterclaim against Depp for disturbance.
Depp previously lost a UK libel case against The sun newspaper on the same article as Heard.

Isaac Baruch, who first met Depp as a teenager in Florida and became his longtime friend, lived in one of the five penthouses on the Eastern Columbia Building in downtown Los Angeles owned by the actor.
At one point on Wednesday, Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft asked him if he was mad at his client, given everything that happened when the couple broke up and charges were brought against Depp.

Johnny Depp’s sister says Amber Heard called him “old and fat” and that the actor’s family was “devastated” by his marriage to her.
Christi Dembrowski made the claims as he took a stand as a first witness in the multi-million dollar libel trial in Virginia, in which Depp states that a 2018 article about domestic violence he wrote about The Washington Post implied that he was a harasser.
He told the court that while he had seen Ms. Heard “being nice” to her brother, he had also seen her “not being nice” and provided details of one such comparison.

Eve Barlow, Amber Heard’s friend and supporter, was banned from the courtroom for the remainder of the trial.
She was asked to leave court by order from Judge Penney Azcarate.

Ben Rottenborn, Heard’s attorney, said the case concerned his First Amendment rights to discuss his experiences and argued that context is important and asked the jury to read the entire article he wrote for. The Washington Post – which led to the lawsuit – and not just the parts highlighted by Depp.
He then read the article to the jury and asked why Depp didn’t sue The Washington Post as does Heard, claiming he wants to “ruin her life, destroy her”.
