In the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver lit the fire on the campaign of Pennsylvania Senate candidate and TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz.

It’s no secret that Oliver has a bone to choose with Dr. Oz. In 2014, the British American host spent 16 minutes in a segment outlining the scientific controversy surrounding Oz and the dietary supplement industry. Oliver has continued to pepper negative mentions regarding Oz’s pseudo-scientific claims in episodes over the years.

It would therefore be wise to throw Oz in the fryer if the controversial daytime television doctor ever ranks for a key Senate seat that could change the balance of Congress.

Oliver began by questioning Dr. Oz’s primary residence. Even though the Ohio-born retired doctor is running for an assignment in Pennsylvania, social media often features Oz over 200 miles away at his North Jersey mansion. Oliver dubbed it the “Eric Adams Special,” referring to the previous incumbent New York mayor scandal where the then-mayoral candidate was rumored to live in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

The Emmy Award-winning guest revealed that he is also intimately aware of Oz’s proximity to New York as his talk show offices are located directly across the aisle from Last week tonightis. The mischievous Oliver had his staff install a giant stage alligator holding his middle finger directly at their offices to express contempt for alleged medical malpractice.

“It seemed like an appropriate way to get them every morning,” said Oliver of Oz and his employees.

Oliver then documented many of Oz’s clumsy video attempts to connect with Pennsylvania voters: one of the Senate candidates complaining about the high prices of vegetables at a Redners club, another of him complaining about the rise in oil prices while pumping gas and finally one with an Oz praising Pennsylvania high school wrestlers.

Oliver said there’s no way Oz can actually empathize with working-class voters for soaring food and gas prices due to his multimillionaire status. On the cue, Oliver revealed a cheeky video released in 2019 of Dr. Oz wakesurfing in Italy with Grits’ song “My Life Be Like” to reinforce this disconnect.

“The truth is, it’s his as his life is going to be because he’s fucking rich. Which means he can do things like that, but what he can’t do is stand in front of the gas stations and pretend he’s personally influenced by those numbers, “Oliver said.

Realizing that his anger had been misdirected to the staff of The show of Dr. OzOliver admitted some regret about the alligator stunt with his middle finger and apologized.

“This campaign actually taught me something because I talked a lot of bullshit on the Dr. Oz Show and I did it because it was incessantly terrible, but what is now clear is that I didn’t appreciate how hard the staff had to be. working every day to make sure it wasn’t even worse, ”Oliver said.

“He had to quit his show to run for the Senate and if any of his staff come back to our office in the next few weeks to clean up their stuff, we actually left a new special message for them about our alligator: ‘I’ am sorry. Sounds like a fucking nightmare. ‘ Because he really does it ”.
