South Carolina Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer fired off a #WelcomeHome tweet on Monday, June 27.
Seven days later on July Fourth, four-star linebacker jaden robinson announced his commitment to South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class, which now lists a total of 13 public declarations. Robinson, who’s out of Columbia High School in Lake City, Fla., made the pledge to the Gamecocks a day after his official visit.
Robinson committed over offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland and Michigan. He was offered by Florida on Sunday.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Robinson is the No. 33-ranked linebacker in the class of 2023. Robinson joined Grayson Howard (Jacksonville, Fla.) as South Carolina’s second linebacker commitment for that recruiting cycle.
The Gamecocks hosted Robinson for several visits since June of 2021. His first was last summer during a session of Beamer Camp, though Robinson did not go through an on-field work out for the coaching staff.
Robinson returned for the Florida game last fall. He was back on campus for a junior day in January, then returned a couple of months later for the Garnet and Black spring game.
defensive coordinator Clayton White worked as Robinson’s primary recruiter in South Carolina. Sterling Lucas took over as the area recruiter when Mike Peterson departed for Florida.
“(White) was telling me what all I needed to know to in his defense,” Robinson said, after the junior day trip in January. “Coach Lucas was telling me how much of a dog I am and how I can come in help out the (team). Also, spoke with Beamer. He told me how (they) needed guys like me at South Carolina.”
Robinson finished his junior season with 64 tackles, including three for loss with two sacks.
Among prospects from the state of Florida, Robinson is ranked No. 72 overall. He’s South Carolina’s fifth 2023 commitment from the Sunshine State. Howard, wide receiver Kelton Henderson (Lehigh Acres, Fla.), tight end Connor Cox (Jacksonville, Fla.) and safety Cameron Upshaw (Perry, Fla.).
