Cruise Dangles Mid-Air In New M:I-8 Photo

Paramount Pictures

To celebrate Tom Cruise’s 60th birthday, filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie has posted a behind-the-scenes image of the star filming a stunt for the second of the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” films.

McQuarrie’s photo has Cruise, famed for doing his own stunts, harnessed to a bright red vintage biplane flying at altitude above the UK countryside.

This would match a report in The Sun in December last year of Cruise then learning to fly a Boeing-Stearman biplane for a major sequence to shoot this year in what is the currently filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two”.

Those rehearsals took place in Cambridgeshire in the UK with Cruise reportedly harnessed to the wing. He dangled himself upside down while the plane performed a belly-roll – leaving the actor sitting the right side up. The pilot then sent the plane into a nosedive and a spin as Cruise made his way back into the cockpit.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” finished filming late last year ahead of a July 14th 2023 release. “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” commenced its shoot earlier this year before a June 28th 2024 release.
